Fancy Purple diamonds are among the rarest and most enigmatic diamonds. Their mystical color is so difficult to find that they represent a tiny percentage of Fancy stones, and finding one larger than 2 ct is almost impossible.
Most come from the Argyle mine in South Africa, although they have also been found in places like the Kimberlite Mir mine in Siberia. Their hue emerges during the ascent to the surface, when deformations in the crystal structure reflect light in spectacular purple hues. Due to their rarity, these diamonds are highly sought-after, but it is crucial to distinguish between natural and treated colors, as their value varies significantly. Natural diamonds concentrate color in the crystal lamellae, while treated diamonds display a uniform saturation. Only an expert can certify their origin.
Purple Intensity:
Fancy Purple diamonds can be found in a wide range of shades. The combination of tones, as well as the different intensities and saturations, give rise to the most beautiful colors, ranging from a soft lilac to an intense purple.
The Fancy Purple scale according to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is: Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, and Fancy Vivid, Fancy Deep, or Fancy Dark.
Secondary Colors:
Fancy Purples often feature secondary tones such as Brown, Grey, or Pink, and even red undertones. These mixtures usually lower their value, except for Purplish Pink, which fetches the same price as a pink diamond.
On the other hand, pure Fancy Purples are virtually nonexistent on the market and command extraordinary prices.
Royal Heart:
The Royal Purple Heart is one of the largest and rarest purple diamonds. It weighs 7.34 ct, has no secondary tones, and was cut in the shape of a heart to highlight its intense color, which gives it its name.
It is believed to have been found in Russia and cut by the Julius Klein Diamond Corporation, although its history remains shrouded in mystery.

Purple Engagements:
Fancy Purples are a unique choice for engagement rings. Associated with nobility, wisdom, and spirituality, they add meaning and transform any piece of jewelry into a work of art.
An iconic example is Vanessa Bryant's ring, which Kobe Bryant received with a stunning 8-carat purple diamond studded with brilliants.
